Situated in the hills of the the Berkshires, Bard College at Simon’s Rock is the nation’s only liberal arts and science college for students of high-school age. ABA designed Bard’s new 53,000-square-foot performing and visual arts center, including mainstage and black box theaters, rehearsal spaces, a dance studio, offices, classrooms, and support spaces. New visual arts facilities include painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and electronic arts studios and labs.
ABA’s design responds to the site’s natural features and agrarian setting. A welcoming and visible campus cornerstone, the project meets Bard’s ambitions for a dynamic teaching and performance facility.
The Daniel Arts Center received design awards from the Chicago Atheneum, AIA New England, the Boston Society of Architects, and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology.
