Urban Design Group served as architect and project manager for the full-scale adaptive reuse of 3840 Bank Street, transforming a 1920s industrial warehouse in Highlandtown into the headquarters for Barcoding, Inc. The project balanced historic preservation with modern functionality, restoring original steel clerestory windows, re-glazing all 1920s windows, and retaining exposed hardwood floors and roof structures while creating contemporary office suites, production areas, and testing facilities. Close collaboration with the owner ensured operational needs were met without compromising the building’s industrial character. The completed project earned federal and local historic tax credits, establishing a state-of-the-art technological hub that honors the site’s heritage and contributes to the revitalization of Highlandtown as a dynamic business and innovation district.
