BANDIRMA PARK
B.RE.A.K. - Bandirma Regeneration As Knowledge
B.RE.A.K. is an organically integrated urban design, acting as an epicenter for the future transformation of the city of Bandirma, Turkey.
This proposal aims to regenerate the cities depleted ecological center, creating revitalization through connections, pathways, assembly spaces and a progressive approach towards program, all of which aim to enhance the relationships between the visitor and the environment. Bandirma Turkey aspires to become a center for innovation and creativity and from this aspiration, the primary function of this proposal becomes the Design Institute - an operation that will attract a large number of academic gatherings from the Turkish region for hosting exhibitions and research conferences.
Instantly recognizable, the project becomes a discoverable urban landmark via its location, benefiting from an advantageous observation point, overlooking the harbor and the city. At the core, the proposal’s canyon like concept creates a direct connection to the adjacent urban context, introducing a true civic social center. Encompassed by retail and commercial functions, the expansive carved public square becomes home to temporary events, concerts, seasonal markets and open-air exhibitions.
The Bandirma Park proposal becomes a socially and environmentally energized green zone, providing fundamental outlets for recreation, environmental education and social relationships with the growing metropolitan community. A symbol of sustainability, this newly integrated network creates a system for energy preservation and integrated passive solutions. The heart of the program is an united urban landscape, dictated by history as well as vernacular tradition and evolved through the modern ambitions of the Turkish nation - a authentic synthesis between the bold regional character and a ingrained man made environment.
Seeking a non-obtrusively built context but instead an architecture of humility, this proposal is derived through the landscapes natural physique, drawing in the folds and the woven natural fabric of the terrain. As the natural context is modified, the architecture becomes unified and begins to incorporate each integral factor vital to the future success of this region.
B.RE.A.K. is an URBAN HEART, a CENTER FOR THE PEOPLE, a LANDMARK FOR THE CITY and a SYMBOL FOR ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSATIVE RESOLUTION.
