Bambino is a counter service pizzeria in a former food storage warehouse in Austin, TX. The existing masonry and concrete tee building was restructured with steel to frame large glass walls at the street facing corner. This creates a brightly daylit dining room, while the multiple layers of screening create a shaded intimate dining experience at day or night. The interior fixtures and finishes reference a nostalgia for pizzerias of the chef’s youth, while complimenting the existing terra cotta masonry walls and concrete ceiling. The main feature of the dining room is a curved bar clad in a patterned glossy tile with faceted glass lights meant to contrast the rougher existing building.
