Backbeat was conceived as a neighborhood bar. The tight, narrow building lent itself to a more intimate setting. To help tie the very long space together we designed a seating element that extends from the front of the building to the back. It varies in height and type incorporating banquette, booth, and lounge seating options.
The palette of materials was chosen to convey an inviting, comfortable and contemporary interior. Walnut paneling on walls and ceiling above the bar add warmth while the white marble top provides a cool, clean surface. The back wall of the bar is composed of sleek steel shelving with a backdrop of encaustic concrete hexagonal shaped tiles. Other materials and finishes were chosen for their natural and unadorned qualities such as board formed walls, blackened steel, and clear sealed wood. In contrast, textiles and
wallpaper add color, texture and pattern. The use of lower ceilings and dim lighting in combination with our edited materials palette help to create an environment that can foster quiet conversation to casual laid back interaction amongst a diverse, “local” clientele.
