Gastroenterology clinics tend to have a reputation of being located in windowless buildings, with a sterile and un-welcoming feel. When Arizona Gastroenterology wanted a new clinic designed at an existing second floor medical building, they tasked the design team to construct a new center that would function as needed, but feel more like a higher end medical clinic than typical. The layout of the clinic captured the many exterior windows by locating lobbies, check in, offices, break rooms, follow up and some exam rooms along those exterior walls.Even the pre and post op area enjoys exterior windows, which can help aid in the recover of a procedure. Efficient flow of patient traffic is created with locating the entrance to both facilities at the same main point: clinic and endoscopy. Large glass walls allow patients to feel the outdoors as much as possible, with a gentle curved check in counter flowing the patient to the internal entrances. The theme of calm and medical spa feel continues with the finishes, lighting, and openness of the communal corridors, with nurse stations acting as open points versus enclosed offices. Existing skylights were reused within the new design to capture more natural light within the corridors. Four large endoscopy rooms operate at the center of the clinic, with required ASC functions located adjacent to them for ease of access.
