In a bold initiative to address homelessness, OSD worked with an architectural adaptive reuse to transform the former JFK Hilton Hotel into an urban oasis that brings fresh life and fresh food to a new community. An interior garden will provide a communal social space, complete with urban agriculture and games, to the residents of 318 new affordable housing units. A subtropical planting palette, as well as materials and furnishing, is inspired by travel and adventure, and is made possible by the design and engineering of interior climate systems. The project emphasizes sustainability, community, health and well being, and fresh food to create a biophilic experience for residents. This housing project aims to create more than just a shelter; it aspires to craft a transformative environment where individuals can rebuild their lives, connect with one another, and embrace the promise of a sustainable future.
