Atlantic Beach follows a modern language of levels and half-levels, while resonant with landscape and site. Based on Corbusier's “Dom-ino” open-plan principle, the floor datums were then deliberately disconnected and shifted vertically at junctures of circulation. The exterior materials are a reflection of the surrounding rugged, bucolic character of the landscape. This naturalist composition consists of: vertically-clad burnt-umber Kebony wood rainscreen as an inlay, within cubic, silvery clad volumes, open rainscreen louvers and floor-to-ceiling clear glazing, resulting in varied quality light over the course of the day, choreographed with solar angles and seasonal fluctuations. Entrance points, such as the front entry canopy, are illuminated to subtly accent the well-integrated entry doors.
