Built in 1833, this Grade I heritage building is among Mumbai’s oldest public buildings, having served as its Town Hall, Court, as well as University Hall before the Victorian structures were built to house them. Today, it houses the Asiatic Library and the Central Library, a repository of rare books and artefacts. The project involved structural consolidation of the roof, structural repairs and façade restoration of the Neo Classical building which is an icon of Mumbai.
The project restored the regency interiors of the library, restoring the historic furniture and peeling away layers of incongruous oil paints, vinyl flooring to reveal the historic marble and wood floors and original interior scheme
