This adaptive re-use of an early 1900s industrial machine shop launched a new identity for an established business in downtown Denver. The design is organized around a new central courtyard created by stripping away the center section of the existing roof to funnel natural light and ventilation through interior spaces, providing views to the Denver skyline.
Salvaged artifacts from the building’s past life are re-used throughout new spaces, and re-purposed heavy timber roof beams and wood decking are preserved as custom interior furnishings designed and fabricated by |end grain. Maintaining the existing shell and structure of the building sustainably preserved a venerable building with rich historic character.
