Designing a villa entails a blend of artistic vision and technical expertise, necessitating a profound understanding of the client's preferences. Engaging in a project situated in India, we were entrusted with a distinctive challenge: to conceive a residence seamlessly integrating a robust aesthetic with the embodiment of traditional Indian values. This undertaking proved to be both stimulating and notably intricate, entailing a comprehensive consideration of technical and cultural nuances. We encountered a range of challenges, each requiring tailored solutions and meticulous attention to detail.
Vastu Shastra
One of the key requirements from the client was to adhere to the principles of Vastu. Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian architectural system founded on principles of harmony and balance within spaces. It outlines guidelines on how to position buildings, rooms, and interior elements to foster a positive energetic atmosphere.
Successfully incorporating Vastu principles into the project necessitated ongoing consultation with an expert in the field. We actively engaged with the expert to fine-tune details and ensure the project aligned closely with the concept's specifications.
In integrating Vastu principles into the interior design, we took into account recommendations regarding room layouts, color schemes, and material selections. For example, we positioned bedrooms in the northwest for conducive sleep and placed the kitchen in the southeast to maintain overall harmony and balance within the home. Additionally, natural materials and decorative elements were utilized. This approach allowed us to craft a residence that pays homage to the traditions and culture of the region.
Hillside location
The architectural concept of the villa was developed with careful consideration for harmonizing with the natural landscape. As you approach the house from one side, its frontal aspect is visible, creating a sense of relatively compact space. However, inside the house, an unconventional idea was realized: instead of a standard vertical structure with floors stacked one above the other, the majority of floors descend from top to bottom along the slope of the mountain. This decision gives the house a unique exterior appearance and fosters a feeling of harmony with the surrounding nature.
Another intriguing feature of this project is that it essentially comprises two distinct buildings, integrated in a way to give the impression of a unified architectural structure. One of the buildings is designated for residential purposes, while the other serves as a venue for events and gatherings. Each space was meticulously designed with its intended functionality in mind.
Sustainability
An important requirement from the client was ecological sustainability aimed at minimizing negative impacts on the surrounding environment. This challenge was addressed by discreetly installing solar panels on the roof, ensuring they were inconspicuous from the exterior. This approach enabled the house to be powered with clean, renewable energy while maintaining its aesthetic appeal.
Design
Undoubtedly, a key aspect of the project was the villa's design. Despite facing challenges, the task was not only to address technical issues but also to ensure visual appeal and spatial harmony.
The house engages in a dialogue with nature through its grey facade finish, reminiscent of natural stone texture, and the integration of wooden elements into the interior. Clean lines and geometric design forms contribute to an atmosphere of contemporary luxury and ruggedness.
An intriguing design feature was the incorporation of trees into the interior, adding freshness and fostering a sense of unity with nature within the living space.
The villa's design is characterized by an abundance of illuminated installations within the rooms, visible from the outside through beautiful panoramic windows. Their soft lighting creates an impressive effect and enhances the allure of the facade.
Of particular note is the spiral staircase, serving as one of the standout design elements. This staircase, spanning all floors of the house situated down the slope, serves not only as a functional element but also as a visual delight. Playing with geometry here adds a special charm: the staircase's rounded forms engage in an intriguing dialogue with the house's clean lines and rectangular contours.
The conceptual approach to integrating design, philosophy, architecture, and local natural features has resulted in the creation of a truly unique space. Every element, from the structure of the house to the smallest interior details, was carefully considered with the client's needs in mind. Such projects not only test the professionalism of the team but also serve as a wellspring of inspiration for further development.
