The origin of this house began as a commission for 'speculative architecture' or a house for sale, before becoming a life project for a family; analyzing the real estate market in the area and studying the client's budget were the roots of this residence.
The relationship with the 'first client' began by searching for the best lots to develop the commission, once again, the origin of all architecture, the context.
The selection criteria favored a corner lot for its artistic potential, proximity to the built volume, and comfort for the users by 'avoiding a neighbor'; houses in this subdivision are built wall to wall, so there are challenges of habitability and technical difficulties for the natural maintenance of a home.
The sequence of the house begins with the corner entrance, set back and emphasized with a wooden skin to free the garage and services (storage, water heater-pressurized tank, laundry area, powder room, and kitchen) concentrated at the front and integrated into a subdued base, contrasting with the rustic white plaster of the upper floor. The complementary materiality is the red-fired brick in the adjacent walls, designed as witnesses of time as they are consumed by vegetation and contact with water and other natural phenomena.
Continuing this spatial sequence, on the ground floor, a linear circulation axis is projected, organizing the staircase and the entrance to the kitchen with services from inside the house; it culminates with the garden and the 'witness walls' embracing the views of the living room-dining room-kitchen.
The upper floor first resolves a semi-public workspace or a tentative linen closet, organizing two bedrooms sharing a bathroom and giving each bedroom its identity, one facing the garden and the other the selected corner. The master bedroom extends over the garage, partially covering it and giving it character, engaging with the entrance through the 'discreet window' lined with wood on the inside.
Always thinking that the best home is the most flexible one, the one that can grow with the family or change over time, another staircase is designed for a new program and a future habitable level.
