Overlooking the deep Aegean blue, in an untouched area of Karpathos called Katodio, a new hospitality development designed and built by A&M, is now ready to welcome its guests. With a brand identity bringing memories for the owners of this place, the new hotel, takes the name Aposperia, reminiscences family moments from the Karpathian tradition, while representing one of the most intimate actions of daily Karpathian life, the evening gatherings (αποσπερία).
On a rough topography in Katodio, 3 villas are designed in an amphitheatrical setting following the natural landscape while offering panoramic views to the sea. With a traditional architectural scale, the villas allow for outdoor spaces in between volumes while safeguarding each suite’s privacy. The volumes are carefully dressed in dark and whitewashed surfaces to peacefully blend with the natural landscape. Every villa has its own pool with direct access from the living room as well as a private courtyard, planted with local aromatic herbs that complete a memorable local experience. Large openings merge the indoor and outdoor spaces, while guests enjoy living within nature.
The intact beauty of the Dhodekanese Island became a source of inspiration leading to a humble design approach both externally and internally, while the wild raw beauty of the landscape played its own role in the color palette selection. The contemporary contrasts in materiality and design are effortlessly synchronizing in a minimal modern environment consisting of natural materials from black to white and all in between variations of gray. With the use of natural raw wood in details along with natural textures and fabrics creating a balanced blend between traditional and new, all elements are fully harmonized.
