The Andover Branch of the Greater Wichita YMCA is the new centerpiece of the Andover community. This 118,000 square foot fitness facility was visualized as a modern design. Clean lines and a transparent glass skin establish a sense of anticipation upon entering the building.
In the main lobby, a large water wall framed in the YMCA logo captures the eye and creates a calming ambiance. Bold, custom graphics lead visitors to the second level where adult fitness equipment is in perpetual motion. Throughout the workout spaces, caramel colored wood gives warmth and adds richness to hard surfaces. All of the primary spaces are easily accessible from the main corridor. These include the basketball courts, indoor track, racquetball courts, program studios and locker rooms.
On the ground level, a tiered program studio highlights the instructor and creates a dynamic experience for class participants. Unobstructed views out to the surrounding scenery provide an indoor-outdoor setting. An indoor swimming pool abuts the lobby and is connected to an adjacent outdoor aquatic complex by a large glass wall. This transparency allows abundant natural light to fill the interior and links the inside with the community.
