At an urban scale, the design of this retail building anchors a triangular site formerly occupied by a canning company across a busy street from Baltimore’s harbor. Its dramatic sculptural massing and skin of corrugated metal contrast with the adjacent masonry structures and suggest the site’s maritime and industrial history. As the only new construction on the historic site, the building creates a gateway for the eastern approach to the city. The geometry of the site was embraced to create a dynamic form in plan and reinforced with a folded roof that rises at the corners. Rainwater is collected in a single featured downspout.
