Alantur is one of the long standing beach hotels of Alanya, which is a coastal town that had been projected as “The Turkish Riviera” in the 1960’s. The hotel takes place in between Alanya highway and the Mediterranean sea. The design program of the project consisted of redesigning the existing pool and restaurant area along with its additional services such as toilets, changing cubicles, sunbathing terraces etc. The exceptional green texture surrounding the area, which was formed in years, was the main design input for us while developing the project. Because of the Melen Stream, having the water level above was a critical issue, especially for the rainy seasons. This led to the decision of keeping the pool platform 120cm high above the ground. The distance between the spaces were tended to be alleviated by various ramps and sets combined to the landscape. The grade difference within the area gave us the opportunity to place the service units of the pool (showers, changing cubicles) along the platform setup. A metal canopy was added to the open air restaurant on the west side of the pool. According to the existing plantation & trees that take place in the area, this steel structure was designed and placed irrationally. The toilets and open + closed playground areas were also positioned according to the existing landscape as well as the master plan. The pool and it’s services were completed by the use of exposed concrete accompanied by solid wood elements. Curvilinear cut outs were made on the platform for sunbathing in order to unite the existing landscape with the pool area while enlarging the platform.
