The second building on the LabCampus to date is the AirportAcademy on Pioneer Square in the westernmost quarter of the new Innovation Campus. Together with LAB 48, the two buildings form the cornerstone for the growing LabCampus district.
In keeping with the iconic architecture envisioned in the master plan for this development site, the new building appears as an unmistakable standalone structure. The expressive exposed concrete framework on the outer edge of the two-storey building base, which supports a delicate three-storey glass cube, is particularly eye-catching. The shape of the supporting structure is derived from the runway geometry typical of Munich Airport. Thus, it not only subtly refers to the location of the building, but also to its main user.
While the three upper levels, which are organised around an inner courtyard, primarily house office space, the two basement floors are reserved for the AirportAcademy. The AirportAcademy is the education and training centre of Flughafen München GmbH, which also offers qualification and further training opportunities for external participants.
