Those travelers who roam the unique Vorarlberg landscape, admire the mountains, enjoy local hospitality and get to know the way of life and tradition are also confronted with the local architecture. Away from the big city centers, the Bregenzerwald developed its own nuance of an architectural style, in which the landscape, nature and farming culture in the Bregenzerwald are of great importance. Rural pragmatism, but also the discipline of timber construction, which has been brought up to date, seems to have a stronger effect here. Above all, however, there is always a strong reference to the landscape, especially where it does not make use of superficial means, but adheres to material, size and proportion.
The Hotel Adler sits enthroned with stoic serenity opposite the striking barrock church and high above the access road to the village of Au in the Bregenzerwald. By surveying the building, the viewer is also informed about its purpose and function as a hotel. The dominant basis of the building is formed by the two-storey wellness area in front, which is embedded in the slope with its blue-gray solid natural stone facade and the dark glass bands. An elongated infinity pool on the north side complements the newly added attractions of the house and offers spectacular views of the Kanisfluh.
The four-storey wing of the room rises slightly above the massive base. The original main house, with a pitched roof and large shingled facade, which has been run as a family business since 1665, remains discreetly in the background. In addition to the spacious wellness area, the construction measures also included room expansion and the large-scale revision of the interiors. The latter was implemented with a lot of consideration for regional traditions and based on the location-based craft and its details.
