Empower Your Imagination
When thinking of "steel" in architecture, one often imagines a material that is strong and durable, commonly used as a structural element in industrial works. Under the concept of "Empower Your Imagination," the design of the Thematic Pavilion aims to explore new possibilities of using steel in innovative ways, pushing the limits and unlocking its potential, and reducing the conventional perceptions of this material.
To uncover the potential of steel as a new structural element, we observe the nature around us and realize that everything in nature has its own structure. For example, trees and leaves are composed of tiny cells, flowers and bee hives have units made of geometric shapes, all contributing to their strength and ability to expand freely. Even steel itself is made up of molecular-level metallic bonds, which make it dense and strong.
Drawing inspiration from the natural structures composed of geometric shapes, we have applied the idea of modular structure in designing the Thematic Pavilion. The components of the entire pavilion are made up of square-shaped metal sheets that are assembled into modules that can be connected to form floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, and every part of the pavilion. The units in this modular structure have been developed with consideration of every factor, including size, thickness, which affects strength, printing patterns, and colors of the sheets, which not only reflect the product of Empower Steel but also ensure safety and user-friendliness. Moreover, the design is made to be convenient and easy to assemble into various shapes, and it can also be disassembled to create new possibilities.
The design of this Thematic Pavilion has applied the principles of RETHINK, REUSE, and RE-FORM. By rethinking the possibilities of steel structures and applying them to create modules of metal sheets that can be reused due to the longevity, durability, and sustainability of the material. They can be transformed or reassemble to be suitable for future projects. With the ability to change and reuse these modules, it enhances the potential of the design, as embodied in the concept of “Empower Your Imagination.”
