Abundant Life Baptist Church sought a new youth building to accommodate a rapidly growing congregation of future leaders. The facility needed to accommodate ministry groups, community outreach programs, and large-scale worship sessions, among other programming. Sensitivity to the surrounding residential neighborhoods, community input, and code requirements from the city of Lee’s Summit, MO were also critical to the design process.
The original program for the youth building included a 500 seat, state-of-the art auditorium equipped with professional AV and lighting equipment, a lounge with soft seating, games, computer workstations, an eatery, offices, classrooms, accessible restrooms and lobby areas to support a range of functions. Our team was challenged to create an exciting, functional and flexible space able to cater to serve both individual, as well as group worship and growth. Following a number of outreach initiatives in conjunction with the congregation, major priorities and values were determined. From that point, IAA was able to refine and expand upon original program requests.
Ultimately, our team delivered a vibrant, functional, and flexible youth building reflecting Abundant Life’s vision. The space is defined by a cool, modern aesthetic. It includes a 500-seat worship hall, equipped with professional A/V and lighting, as well as lounge areas, a game room with computer stations, offices, classrooms, and a café. The lobby area, directly outside the worship hall, can accommodate another 200 guests for larger events, or stand on its own as a place to host gatherings. The exterior was designed with the intention of future expansion, as well as not to disturb surrounding neighborhoods.
