Sunnyside Supportive Housing

973 Lansdowne Avenue

Toronto, Canada

YEAR
2004
973 Lansdowne houses both a sixty-five bed hostel and a twenty unit apartment complex. Construction was coordinated in three phases. The first phase was the conversion of a turn-of-the-century warehouse situated in a courtyard off Lansdowne Street into multi-bed hostel. Phase Two involved the remediation of the entire courtyard and Phase Three was the construction of the three-storey 20 unit housing.
The construction of Phases Two and Three was coordinated to allow the day to day running of the hostel to continue.
This project represents the first non-profit housing proposal to incorporate a wide variety of environmental strategies to reduce both operating and capital cost.
