This mixed-use project, including four residential units and two commercial spaces, was built on a corner site in South Park in the SOMA area of San Francisco. It explored the implications of the flexibility of space, hierarchical organization, and overlay of geometries reflecting the position of the buildings on the site. The structure experimented with alternative structural systems, framed entirely in lightweight steel. All construction materials incorporated non-toxic, renewable, and recycled materials. This project demonstrates the design ability to adjust the scale of forms and elements to assemble a complex vocabulary of materials that will express their nature and age gracefully.
