555 Mission Street, San Francisco’s first LEED Gold certified office tower, is a 33-story office building located downtown, just south of Market Street. The project was instrumental in enhancing the evolving downtown mid-block open space pattern to maximize light, air, and open public space opportunities. The form of 555 Mission responds to the neighboring context and the Mission Street transit corridor, emphasizing verticality and slenderness. The curtain wall system with glass fins is unique, adding a rich texture to the overall expression. A major outdoor plaza was created in the space between 555 Mission and the 101 Second Street, forming a clear connection between the two towers and reinforcing the key north/south mid-block pedestrian link beginning at Market Street. This project was done in collaboration with Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF).
