The concept for 350 Bowery originated when developer Sonny Bazbaz invited the studio to create a vision for an empty lot downtown, prompting us to wonder how a new residential building could both enhance and respect its surroundings. In turn, our concept features a retail component that corresponds to existing shops on its ground floor. Two residential volumes follow horizontal planes formed by the roofs of adjacent buildings, kissing each structure’s northeast edge in a gesture of respect. A forest of columns elevates the upper units to achieve this connection, creating a distinct public space.
