SvN was retained in the spring of 2011 to design a complete renovation and addition to a 3,600sf single family home in Toronto’s Davisville neighbourhood. The existing home had been previously sub-divided into two rental suites of approximately 1,800sf. A prior conversion had re-combined the two units in part but the client desired a completely integrated open floor plan with significant modifications to the building’s exterior to allow for improved transparency and connectivity between indoor and outdoor living areas. The final design, implemented in 2011 and 2012 modified the buildings brick structure to create a large floor-to-ceiling sliding glass wall between the landscaped rear court and the primary living space. The plan involved substantial structural and building systems modifications within the design.
