The renovated and restored ChumCity Building provided CHUM Television, for 25 years, with a unique broadcast and production facility in the creative centre of Toronto, combined with a restored, striking historical façade that became an icon both in the city and on the air.
The building housed Citytv, Toronto’s independent streetfront, storefront television station, MuchMusic and Bravo!. The "building as studio" design approach meant that all spaces functioned as both work environments and shooting areas. Through a sophisticated system of "hydrants" for camera, audio and lighting pack plug-ins, any corner of the facility could be on air within minutes.
Many of CHUM Television’s administrative and sales functions were subsequently relocated to an adjacent historic building renovated by Quadrangle at 260 Richmond Street West. The two structures are linked at the second floor by a Quadrangle-designed glass and steel bridge, a new icon on the ChumCity campus.
