The name of the project is its programme - 2226 JED Schlieren (Join. Explore. Dare) as a centre for innovation and knowledge transfer, which is used by various companies, also sets an example with its architecture in several respects. On the site of a former printing works, 2226 JED Schlieren redefines a location in terms of urban planning with its outdoor facilities and volumetry, without abandoning the urban scale of its surroundings.
The ensemble with a gross floor area of 18,000 square metres is a closed structure with recesses on the upper floors that provide space for green terraces. On the ground floor, it is the recesses of the cubature that create sheltered open spaces. The flow of space on the outside is offset by maximum flexibility of use on the inside. Only external brick walls, rows of columns and the cores form a primary structure that serves as a framework for use-neutral workspaces.
In terms of cost, energy and space efficiency, 2226 JED sets new standards: the facility is the largest project realised to date that was built according to the 2226 principle. In concrete terms, this means that conventional methods of heating, cooling and ventilation can be dispensed with. The symbiosis of high storage mass (compact design, brick walls), architecture (proportions, minimised window areas, room heights) and the 2226 Operating System. This software, which directs the energy flows by means of ventilation sashes, helps to maintain a temperature range of between 22 and 26 degrees
