Studio Gang, acclaimed for its inventive and iconic designs that push boundaries and rethink architectural norms, envisioned 11 Hoyt as a unique paradigm, a residential tower built atop of a podium. The podium, which spans the entire block and houses 40,000 square feet of retail spaces, sets the tower back from the street and allows the maximum light and air to fill the tower’s residences
The firm took inspiration from the classic bay windows found among Brooklyn’s iconic brownstones, one of the borough’s most recognizable architectural details. Studio Gang completely reimagined them as projecting bays that sweep diagonally up and down 11 Hoyt’s façade like gently cresting waves. The result is architecture that is imaginative and forward-thinking. 11 Hoyt’s soaring and distinctive silhouette is destined to become a landmark on the Brooklyn skyline.
The building’s scalloped façade is comprised of exquisitely crafted, shimmering cast concrete and glass. Coupled with the sunlight and shadows that naturally occur throughout the day, the bays appear to dramatically peel away from the building and animate the façade with movement. The complex geometry of the façade and windows create approximately 190 unique floor plans for the building’s 481 homes.
Upon arrival to the building, residents wind past lush plantings and statuesque trees rising through a large sun-filled oculus before entering the grand three-story lobby, which boasts 29-foot high ceilings. The property also features a private driveway with porte-cochere and motor court. Hill West Architects is collaborating with Studio Gang on the architecture for 11 Hoyt.
