An elegant dance of geometry, shadows, and light, 100 Varick was created for a closed competition led by developer Michael Shvo. Drawing on the structural efficiency of a diagrid exemplified by Sir Norman Foster, 100 Varick explores the issue of weight distribution using a QuaDror exoskeleton, where glass volumes are inserted into apertures formed by the frame. Interior spaces remain free from structural columns.
The 25 floors are effectively divided into independent five-story units, disseminating weight in smaller, lighter increments throughout the structure.
