For more than half a century, Weidlinger Associates has been a leading structural engineering and applied mechanics consultant, known worldwide for its innovative solutions. The firm designs sustainable buildings and infrastructure; develops advanced analysis software; and provides special services in multihazard engineering.
History
Company founder Paul Weidlinger pioneered the fields of high-rise buildings and high-strength concrete, collaborating with many renowned 20th-century architects. Sixty years later, the firm remains at the vanguard of state-of-the-art design for long-span, tensegrity, and other special structures. The synergy between applied science and structural engineering sets Weidlinger apart and has enhanced the firm’s creativity and its contributions to such projects as the Georgia Dome, the Rose Center for Earth and Space, and, most recently, the self-anchored suspension span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the World Trade Center reconstruction.Expertise
In addition to special structures, Weidlinger’s Buildings Group designs buildings of every type in the U.S. and worldwide. The firm’s Transportation Group specializes in designing and rehabilitating highways, transit and railroad facilities, tunnels, and waterfront structures, and is particularly well known for its life-extending renovation of historic suspension bridges. Following the events of 9/11, the work of Weidlinger’s Applied Science and Investigations Group has matured, and the firm leads the field in the scope and complexity of its classified security projects. Recognition
In an Honor Award citation, the American Institute of Architects described Weidlinger Associates as “pioneering engineers and structural designers, whose innovative solutions and long-standing commitment to research and computer applications have revolutionized building in America.” Several recent projects—the Rockefeller University Campus Community Bridge, Cheju Stadium, the Beijing Bank of China, and Pier 3 Cruise Ship Dock Canopy in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico—have received national awards for engineering excellence. Weidlinger also received the nation’s highest engineering award for its forensic study of the World Trade Center tower collapses. www.WAI.com
