vHH Architects designs award-winning buildings and places for the public benefit, utilising the newest BIM technology to deliver cost-effective schemes and a thoughtful and intelligent service to our clients. The way we design buildings is more a reflection of the way in which we work with people, rather than an adherence to a particular ‘style’. People are at the heart of everything we do; from the way we operate as a practice to the way in which we design buildings and places.
Founded in 1983 we are now a partnership based in Camden, London, and are owned and managed by two Partners - James McCosh and Meryl Townley - both of whom have worked at vHH for more than half their career. They share responsibilities, and architects work for both. Every project is led by a Partner, and the same team will see a project through from the early stages right through to the end.
Our focus is on delivering lasting, flexible spaces which benefit both the user and client through ease of use and added value. Within our extensive portfolio we count numerous award-winning buildings in the education, heritage/conservation, health, community and cultural sectors.
We recently won a RIBA National Award for our project at Leicester Cathedral, and Building of the Year at the RIBA East Midlands Awards, as well as Project Architect of the Year for Partner Josh McCosh. We were also awarded the Architect’s Choice Award at the Brick Awards last year for our Whitty Theatre at Luckley House School.
We take a holistic approach to design, and believe the development of any site is as much about the spaces between the buildings, as the buildings themselves. We also concentrate on the acoustic qualities of spaces, not just where acoustic separation is important as in a school or performing venue. In our view acoustic design is as important as the distribution of light and the circulation of air, in creating the most physically and psychologically delightful environment.
Our work ranges in size from £1M to £70m in various sectors, and for public and private bodies. Our client base is diverse and all our projects benefit from cross-fertilisation of ideas across all sectors.
