Twelfth Street Studio was formed as a collaboration between longtime colleagues and previous firm principals Rick Penza (Rick Penza Architect, Inc) and Brandon Hicks (Studio Independent LLC). With a strong emphasis on modern design the Studio believes in developing projects that are rooted in their context and that respond strongly to program and function.
Our creative process begins with the client’s vision and the establishment of a collaborative and constructive environment through which project-specific data may be determined, collected and analyzed. Site factors, cultural and economic environments, programming, budget and schedule constraints, construction techniques, sustainability, innovation, branding, and post-occupancy issues are all considered.
The role of design in the human experience and its potential to enrich lives motivates us to explore innovative and intimate solutions to the various components of a project through the use of local, collaborative craftsmen. The resultant projects serve as an opportunity for human interaction through a response to client-driven functionality and rigorous design values. We view our work and design not as necessities but rather as an integral part of our lives, and further, the lives of each of the project’s contributors.
