The works of SHJWORKS emerges out of the desire for and interest in places and in the feeling of belonging to a place. With great curiosity towards different cultural backgrounds, and layers in society, we establish projects with a strong sense of place, in a way that engages the human body, mind and narrative. Often our projects combine artistic creation with a functional practice.
To express personal and existential characters in our digital age is also a concern of ours. Many of the built projects take advantage of computer and CNC technology in the production phase.
SHJWORKS is founded in 2009 by Simon Hjermind Jensen. In 2007 Simon did his MA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen with part of his time of study at RMIT in Melbourne. After graduation he worked for architectural companies in Copenhagen and for C. F. Møller Architects in London.
Many of the projects have been built in public places in Copenhagen. A few of the places is Trianglen, Holmbladsgade, Sundholm and Toftegaardsplads.
The work of Simon Hjermind Jensen has also been on show at various exhibitions and galleries. Among others at the Tate Modern´s opening party for their street art exhibition in 2008, and at the censored exhibition Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling 2010 in Copenhagen. In collaboration with other architects he received a second prize in the Europan 2010 competition.
From time to time SHJWORKS collaborate with other artists, architects, and related professionals on different projects.
