Simon Conder AADipl MDesRCS RIBA MSCD formed his practice in 1984, with offices in Suffolk and London. Prior to 1984 he trained and qualified as an architect at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and as an industrial designer at the Royal College of Art. Before starting his own practice he worked for private practices in London and Copenhagen and latterly for six years in the Public Sector in Basildon New Town and London.
The practice consists of a small, friendly team of Architects and Designers. This multi-disciplinary expertise is applied imaginatively and analytically to all our projects to develop creative, cost-effective solutions, often within tight financial and time constraints.
Our work is about many things but paramount is the attempt to make things well and respond genuinely to the particular requirements of each client and site. Much of our best work has been achieved on very low budgets.
Increasingly our projects are also driven by issues of sustainability and energy efficiency. Current projects incorporate the latest developments in solar heating, photovoltaics, water harvesting and recycling, geothermal and wind power.
Since its inception the practice has undertaken a wide range of work in the community, residential and workplace sectors. Many of these projects have won awards and most have been exhibited and published in more than 200 publications in both the UK and abroad. Our work has also been featured on the BBC, CNN, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky television channels.
The practice has also worked abroad with designs for sites in Australia, China and Singapore and completed projects in Germany, Japan and the USA.
To date the practice has won forty architecture and design awards, including twice winning the RIBA Stephen Lawrence Prize for the best UK building costing under £1,000,000, three times being shortlisted for the RIBA Manser Medal for the best new house in the UK and the EU, and twice being shortlisted for the biennial Mies van der Rohe Award for the best building in Europe.
