SILO AR+D is the architecture, research, and design practice of Marc Manack and Frank Jacobus. We operate out of Ohio, North Carolina, and Arkansas, and are at work on residential and institutional projects across the United States, completing projects for a variety of clients and communities, much of which has been recognized for its design and execution.
SILO's work has been featured by the Wall Street Journal, Architect, the Architect's Newspaper, Azure, Slate, Dwell, and Fast Company among many others. Our architecture has been recognized nationally and internationally with design awards, including those from the AIA. In 2016 SILO AR+D was selected as an Emerging Voice by the Architectural League of New York, a prestigious competition that recognizes significant bodies of realized work and considers accomplishments within the design and academic communities.
Our work is the hybrid energy of two partners who engage architecture through building, teaching, and writing. Rather than a single guiding theory, SILO has an enthusiasm to create architecture that is qualitatively-rich, with vividly distinct characters that are revealed through changes in time, use, and place. We haven’t had the luxury of luxury, but we refuse to over-romanticize our regionalism or use it as a crutch: we instead embrace it as work ethic that is equal parts resourceful and experimental.
