North Studio is a nationally-recognized design laboratory collaborating with non-profit and public sector clients to produce research and conceptually driven architectural projects. Creating work which furthers the mission and goals of each collaborator-client, the studio is at once a locus for undergraduate design education within the context of Wesleyan University’s liberal arts curriculum and a multi-disciplinary design group committed to seeing work built. Each project undertaken by the Studio is expected to balance three objectives: the production of relevant design research, real-world testing of ideas incubated in the studio, and the creation of client-specific, environmentally-responsible work. North Studio was initiated in 2006 by architect Elijah Huge.North Studio projects have won two national AIA awards and have been published widely online and in print, including features in Landscape Architecture, Architectural Record, Dwell, the Journal of Architectural Education, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
