Nizio Design International specializes in designing museum compounds and thematic exhibitions.
It's a company created in 2002 in Warsaw’s Praga district. Nowadays the
founder of the enterprise, Mirosław Nizio, is one of the best known and
most recognisable architects of public space in Poland. Over the 10
years of the studio’s operation, the workshop has earned the
appreciation of public institutions that have entrusted their crucial
projects to Nizio's group. The result of this long-lasting cooperation
with state institutions has been Nizio’s involvement in numerous
projects. They have designed five museum complexes, one urban project
and nine museum expositions. The company has already completed five of
the largest projects of the museum, while six are in progress and three
more are to be completed in the future.
The first project of the Nizio Design International was an exhibition
at the Museum of the Former Extermination Camp in Belzec, completed in
2004. Nizio Design International was one of the creators and the
producer of the exposition at the famous Warsaw Uprising Museum (2004).
This is the first museum in Poland which employs modern means of
exhibition to tell a story. It is the most frequently visited cultural
institution in Poland.
NDI is the winner of important prizes, such as the European Property
Award received in 2011 for the design of the Mausoleum of Martyrdom of
Polish Villages in Michniów. The Mausoleum will be built at a site of
strategic significance in the history of the Second World War.
During the sixteen years of operation of the company in Poland and the
United States it has also completed several interior design projects,
industrial and recreational facilities and private residences. In 2002
Nizio Design International adapted a historic tenement house to become
the seat of its office. Besides the studio, two entities were called to
existence to promote modern artists: Nizio Foundation and Nizio Gallery.
The mission of these organizations is to support young artists who are
just entering the cultural market. Besides, they present socially
involved art, organise meetings, screenings and other activities for
children. The aim is to form the identity of the district, encouraging
the local inhabitants to participate in the social life actively and to
join art events.
Mirosław Nizio graduated from the faculties of interior design and
sculpture. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Fashion
Institute of Technology in New York.
