I am the kind of Designer who seeks to improve the universe while stretching the thresholds of my imagination. The motto is very simple, it is to Be Awesome and soak up as much as I possibly can in one life.
My name is Nisha Mary Prasad and I was born and raised in Queens, New York. Steering away from my pre-determined destiny as another physician on the Indian bookshelf of allowable careers, I chose to follow my imagination and dedicate my life to the world of design. From as far back as I could remember I have been consumed by the infinite possibilities that lie in the world of design and graphics.
I entered architecture school not knowing a thing about the career at all, but I had one goal, to be Awesome. I received my Bachelors in Architecture at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, NY. During my time at NYIT, I found that I was constantly inspired throughout my education because of the mere fact that I stayed involved. I attended lectures, city trips, and eventually became the President of the American Institute of Architecture Students. During my presidency, I planned two architectural trips to California and Boston for the student body. I was constantly exposing myself to different scopes of design so that the inspiration kept flowing. After NYIT, I went onto Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture , Planning, and Preservation to receive my Masters degree in Urban Design. My goal when acquiring my degree at Columbia, was to be a human sponge and to leave school learning how to think differently. I soaked up as much as I possibly could; everything from graphic skills and style, city history comparison and development, to the economic and political aspects of design. And to give back to the universe for all the amazing mentors I’ve had throughout the years, I became an adjunct professor at NYIT’s School of Architecture & Design.
Over the past 8 years, I have been exploring the various fields of design. I have been lucky to have been able to work at a variety of studios including Interior Design & Architecture , Urban Design & Development, Transportation Architecture, and freelance work in Graphic Design, Photography, Furniture Design, and Video Composition.
Design is all encompassing and once you realize you can learn how to manipulate any medium, the boundaries between disciplines disappear, and you can actually design anything.
