Brothers Bernhard (*1966) and Stefan Marte (*1967) studied architecture at the Technical University in Innsbruck. In 1993, they co-founded Marte.Marte Architekten in Weiler, a small municipality in the Vorarlberg province of the Rhine Valley. In addition to numerous private buildings, Marte.Marte have also completed an impressive number of prize-winning constructions in the fields of culture, education, infrastructure, and health. Their buildings are characterized by a stringent sense of abstraction, reduction, and an unerring understanding of the respective location. Countless competition successes and international awards testify to the merit of this young studio, which currently has a staff of 30 employees. Beside two Austrian state-awards Marte.Marte projects have won several national and international awards. The monograph “Marte.Marte Architects”, which was published by SpringerWienNewYork in 2008, was awarded with the state award “most beautiful Austrian book” and with the silver medal for the “most beautiful book of the world” in Leipzig. Aedes, one of the most renowned European galleries of architecture, has shown their monographic exhibitions “concrete works” in December 2009 and “Appearing Sculptural” in December 2015. 2016 Marte.Marte was invited to show their work at at the 15th Architecture Biennale in Venice. Several won competitions like the museum “Galerie Niederösterreich” in Krems, the “Exhibition Center of the Federal Foundation Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation’ in Berlin, the Exhibition Halls in Dornbirn are currently in the building stage. 2012 the widely published ‘Mountain Cabin’ in Laterns has been accomplished and has already won several international prizes like the “red dot award” and the Architizer A+Award.
