Kontrast redefines Swedish architecture by uniting aesthetics with deep technical expertise. We provide architectural services, project management, and digital solutions for property owners who want to develop profitable concepts without compromise. Our skills and methods strengthen early-stage concept development for both new construction and renovation projects. The studio was founded in 2015.
Kontrast is more than a name. It is a philosophy, a way of thinking and working. Our team consists of skilled and creative professionals, and our practice spans both architecture and project management. For us, every project is unique, and we tailor our approach to each client’s needs with creative and personal solutions. Our ambition is to create distinct architecture where economic viability and buildability form the foundation.
Methodology:
At the heart of every project lies the design concept. A design concept is a framework shaped by the project’s specific conditions, such as planning requirements, operational needs, and financial parameters. This foundation is established through careful analysis and identification of those conditions. Formulating the concept is neither complicated nor time-consuming, yet once defined, it significantly streamlines the project’s development and provides a clear architectural direction.
Philosophy:
The search for primitive architecture, the simplest and most essential form of building, has long been discussed. Tracing this idea through history leads us past temples, simple houses, huts, and ultimately to the most basic shelter. Something that protects us from the elements such as rain, sun, and wind. Looking even deeper, we find the roof meeting the wall, the column supporting the beam, and the interior defined against the exterior. Here we see the interplay of opposing forces. Horizontality and verticality, cold and warmth, openness and enclosure, light and darkness.
A window that admits light has no meaning unless it also stands in relation to the darkness around it. Architecture emerges in the balance between contrasts such as structure and space, weight and lightness, exposure and protection. It is within these relationships that we find the essence of architecture. Creating spaces that resonate with human experience, invite interaction, and allow people to feel a sense of belonging.
