Index Architecture Limited was found by Mr. Anderson Lee in 2000. The architectural practice encompasses multidisciplinary services providing conceptual and technical consultancy on urban planning, architecture, interior design and product/furniture design.
As a practice that consistently pushes boundaries in design research and development, Index has been participating in a wide range of exhibitions and design forums which include the back to back Shenzhen/Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale (2008 & 2010), the ‘40under40’ exhibition in Shanghai, China PRC (2007), the ’50 x 50’ exhibition by Hong Kong Design Center (2008), Biennale Design Forum with Ma Qingyun/ Ningbo (2008), Asia Design Forum in 2004 and the Strategy/Installation” HK Monument 1997 at Hong Kong Art Center. Anderson has also been working with local companies on urban redevelopment projects and cemetery designs.
The works of Index is widely published in periodicals and design journals such as SCMP post magazine, Domus, Elle Decoration, Perspective, d+a, Hinge etc. Most notable recent projects include the V-Serviced Apartments and the Fashion boutique Ztampz, both located in Causeway bay, Hong Kong. Ztampz won two American Institute of Architects (AIA) design merit awards in 2005 and 2007 while V Serviced Apartment has won the AIA Merit Award for Interiors 2009 and it was featured in d+a, Perspective, Hinge and Domus. The office has also won Perspective magazine’s Best Residential Interior Award 2009 for The Ha Residence in Sai Kung, NT.
Anderson is committed to the education of an architect. He has been an assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture since 2003. Besides teaching undergraduate design studio and supervising Master of Architecture thesis students, he was the Program Director for the Career Discovery Program (HKU) since 2004. He also served as invited guest critic at Princeton University, Cornell University in the U.S. and Meiji University in Tokyo and lectured at the Rhode Island School of Design, Tongji University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Prior to starting his own practice, Anderson was a Project Associate and Project Architect at Steven Holl Architects (SHA), New York. While at SHA, he was in charge of designing the Lake Whitney Water Treatment Plant in Connecticut and the Tuttle Residence in New Mexico. He was also involved in design for prestigious projects such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, Finland, the MIT Residence Hall, and the Makuhari Housing in Chiba, Japan. He has also worked as a designer at Kohn Pederson Fox Associates (KPF) in New York City.
