Estudio kmmk is an architectural practice based in Zurich, Switzerland. It was founded in 2022 by Angela Kurmann and Frederico Martins Montanha as a fusion and continuity of their solo careers started in Brazil. As a family-run office, the human, architectural, artistic and philosophical approach to each project is deeply rooted in synergy with its users and their ambitions. Every design is carefully developed for the specific place it inhabits, aiming not only to improve the quality of life for its users but also to enhance the character of the location itself. Each commission is both a responsibility toward the client’s goals, and an opportunity to enrich the surroundings through thoughtful design.
The team’s professional experience across three countries — Brazil, Australia and Switzerland — prior to establishing Estudio kmmk in Zurich has shaped the practice with a global outlook rooted in a profound respect for local cultures, traditions and construction knowledge. Engaging directly with places is intrinsic to the office’s DNA: architectural journeys foster constant inspiration and a heightened sensitivity to individual and collective human needs. Working abroad has enabled growth through practice, while exposure to diverse contexts has enabled growth through learning.
The aim is to be tomorrow a better and more conscientious office than today. Respect for local culture and technology remains fundamental in the Estudio kmmk philosophy — it is essential to think globally but act locally. Wherever a project is placed, it must respond to its very specific conditions and environment. Above all, Estudio kmmk sees architecture as a continuous journey — always experimenting, never repeating and forever evolving.
