FLORES & PRATS, ARCHS is an architecture studio based in Barcelona. It was established in 1998 by Eva Prats and Ricardo Flores. Since then, the studio has been involved in several kinds of projects, especially for the Public Administration through open competitions. These include residential and public buildings, as well as public spaces, exhibition design and site-specific installations for major cultural institutions and museums, including Tàpies Foundation, Miró Foundation and Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona. After winning the competition in 2008, they are currently designing the new Microsoft Campus in Milan. Eva Prats was born in Barcelona in 1965. Studies architecture at ETSAB, graduating in 1992. Obtains a Special Mention at the Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí Annual Architectural Award, in 1991 and 1993. Since 1986 until 1991 collaborates at Enric Miralles and Carme Pinòs’ office, and continues to collaborate with Enric Miralles until 1994. She is Associated Professor of Design Studio at ETSAB since 2002.
Ricardo Flores was born in Buenos Aires in 1965. Studies architecture at FADU-UBA, graduating in 1992. In 1993 takes part of the Master in Urban Design at ETSA of Barcelona directed by Manuel Solà Morales, graduating in 1996. Since 1993 until 1998 collaborates at Enric Miralles’ office in a number of projects and competitions. He is Associated Professor of Design Studio at ETSAB since 2009.
The office have obtained the following awards: First Prize at EUROPAN III International Competition; First Prize at the competition for the New Waterfront in Calpe, Alicante; Frst Prize at the competition of the Rehabilitation of the Old Town at Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona). This work obtains the Silver Medal Award at the 3rd International Bienale of Urbanism of Buenos Aires (April 2000); First Prize of the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Baleares 2002/2003 for the Mills Museum in Palma de Mallorca. This work has been selected for the Prize for Contemporary Architecture-Mies van der Rohe Award 2005 and was in the final selection for the IV Bienal Iberoamericana of Lima (Perú), October 2004; First Prize at the Trienale of Architecture of Baix Llobregat (Barcelona) 2005 for the work YUTE’S Warehouse. This project has been also in the final selection for the FAD Awards 2006. Recently they have been awarded with the Grand Award for the Best Work in Architecture at the Summer Show of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, for the Mills Museum in Mallorca.
They have been Visiting Professors at universities in Spain, Argentina, Italy, Denmark, Norway, USA, England, Scotland and Australia, and have also coordinated architectural workshops with Enric Miralles (1998), John Hejduk (1999), Juan Navarro Baldeweg (2000), Cedric Price (2001) and Clorindo Testa (2002). They are authors of several architectural essays, and of the books John Hejduk. House for a Poet, Edicions UPC, Barcelona, 2000 and Through the Canvas. The projects of the office have been exhibited in monographic (COAC of Barcelona and Castello Chiaramonte in Agrigento, Sicily) and collective exhibitions (Berlage Institut in Rotterdam, Architekturzentrum Wien, Palau Solleric of Palma de Mallorca, Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel, Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt am Main, the Museu d’Art Contemporani of Castellò, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, the Arkitekturmuseet of Stockholm and the Cité de l’Architecture & du Patrimoine de Paris).
