Fausto Ferrara is an Italian architect, artist and author. Kenneth Frampton places his research within the critical tradition of tectonic culture, in a lineage that includes Carlo Scarpa, Tadao Ando and Peter Zumthor.
His practice is centred on the Inhabitable Work: architecture understood not as a typological product or image, but as a unity of place, matter, gravity, light, perception and construction.
Among his principal works are Casa 1 in Formentera, a predominantly hypogeal 1,850 sqm structure integrated into the Mediterranean coastal rock and built at approximately €4,890/sqm, and the Temple of Silence, a private sacred pavilion conceived as a total spatial work for one of the most important dynasties in Italian fashion culture.
Ferrara’s work moves across different scales and programmes without depending on the repetition of a typology. Its continuity lies in the criterion through which each commission is transformed through the relationship between necessary form, place and construction.
Since 2004, the engineering, specialist coordination and executive development of his works have been entrusted to Arckeo, directed by Fausto Ferrara and operating exclusively as the Executive Workshop supporting the author.
