EC3 is an international, cross-disciplinary architecture firm designing projects that establish new paradigms where the arts, culture, communities, businesses and the environment thrive.
Founded by Edwin Chan, the Los Angeles-based firm prioritizes tactile, timeless experiential design over abstract theoretical trends, while balancing creativity with practicality to create cost-effective and impactful architecture that resonates with diverse communities in different contexts. EC3’s award-winning portfolio ranges from net-zero buildings and workplace interiors to live-work housing, contemporary art exhibitions and installations.
Working closely with clients and consultants from concept to execution, EC3’s collaborative studio uses physical models to lead an interactive hands-on design process to develop, evaluate and finalize design scenarios while leveraging digital and virtual technologies to visualize, optimize, build consensus and fundraise around project’s designs. The firm has a strong track-record in streamlining project delivery and achieving long-term sustainability.
Recent projects include True North, the firm’s first ground-up project constructed at $100 per sq-ft in less than one year in Detroit; CHALET at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas; the concept design for Atlassian Central, a 39-story net-zero tower in Sydney’s Technology Precinct; and “Crystal Barn”, a high-performance mixed-use development currently underway in Idaho’s emerging Treasure Valley.
In 2021, Atlassian Central (currently under construction) became the first Australian project to win a major award from the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction. During the pandemic, EC3 also completed two offices for Atlassian in San Francisco and Sydney, establishing a new workplace framework for the global tech company.
In 2018, True North was one of six finalists for the prestigious Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP).
EC3 is a member of the National Organization of Minority Architects, a certified minority-owned business and a registered small business enterprise with licenses in California, New York and other states.
