The design philosophy of AMANE ARCHITECTS (Taro Shimokawa) is to create ‘something ordinary but special’. The company places importance on creating spaces where people can feel small happiness in their daily lives, and pursues a balance between universality and individuality.
Drawing on his experience of working in France, he characterises his approach as a fusion of traditional Japanese techniques and Western design. Both buildings make use of natural materials such as domestic timber and plaster, and are designed with an eye to beautification over time.
