With a bold vision for integrated design, Richard Shugar launched his own practice in 2002. Drawing from 20+ years of experience, Richard stepped into the role of principal architect after the untimely death of his long-time friend and business partner, Ed Waterbury. After years of working alongside Ed, although difficult, Richard took life’s curve ball and turned it into a new beginning, 2fORM Architecture.
Shugar established the firm’s design process as insightful, responsive, and collective. With each project, the client’s vision together with the firm’s knowledge and creativity is assessed to develop unified goals. Over the years, Richard has garnered the appreciation of his local community in Eugene, Oregon. 2fORM provides a full spectrum of architectural services and has worked on a myriad of project types including: commercial, residential, institutional, remodels, multi-family, health-care, and hospitality.
2fORM’s work is sensitive to the Pacific Northwest; subsequently, regional environmental considerations are of critical focus. No matter the project scope, sustainable building practices are integrated into all projects. We aim to lower energy costs, improve efficiency through thoughtful planning and maximize the user’s experience with careful material selections and deliberate spatial arrangement.
2fORM recognizes that architecture captures the relationship between people and their environment. We strive to create places where people can connect with their community and interact with both the built and natural environment. We approach every project as an opportunity to learn and explore. Over the years, we have found that the best client and consultant relationships are based on a firm foundation of understanding. Transparency throughout each step of the design process enhances collaboration and produces better results.
