This Community Center Merges Underground Spaces with Mountain Landscapes

Architizer Editors Architizer Editors

When the architects took on this project, they grappled with two major hurdles:

1. How to ensure ample lighting for an underground space?
2. How to seamlessly guide visitors from ground level to this concealed underground area?

Drawing inspiration from the nearby mountains, they devised a masterful solution. They merged the park-like surface with the subterranean section, making it feel like a natural extension of the landscape.

A striking feature they introduced is the petal-like stairs, which effortlessly lead people downward. Inside, visitors will find an array of amenities, from a kids’ activity center and reading room, to a gym, pool, and coffee bar. The goal? To foster community interaction in this flowing space, promoting both familial and neighborhood bonds.
