The Mukwa Waakaa’igan Indigenous Centre of Cultural Excellence will be the new heart of Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. A joint project between Moriyama & Teshima Architects and Smoke Architecture, the cultural center intends to provide a safe space for students and visitors to engage with and learn from the region’s rich Indigenous heritage. The design takes inspiration from Indigenous teachings, from building form to material selection.
