It’s become somewhat of a New York City design community tradition, and recently it returned for its fifth year — the annual Duravit summer party cohosted by Architizer. With the Rio Olympic Games right around the corner, the festivities took on an Olympics theme, which, in a sense, was a throwback to the very first New York City Duravit party.
Every year the designer bath-fitting manufacturer chooses a different, relevant theme that is fun and engaging, offering giveaways, prizes, refreshments and entertainment revolving around the theme. (This year’s event became the second Olympics summer celebration, and in 2014 it was a World Cup–centric party.)
Some 140 guests from the industry — some donning country-team colors and jerseys — stopped by Duravit’s Madison Avenue showroom to revel, including architects from Gensler, SOM, Peter Marino Architect, Rockwell Group and Richard Meier & Partners Architects and industry and media friends including our very own Marc Kushner and Jonah Kaplan.
As they mingled with each other among some of the brand’s latest products, from Darling New C-Bonded to new additions for Happy D.2, they also encountered the event’s summer-fun giveaways: flip-flops, beach balls and sunglasses, to name a few.
Other lucky guests walked away with gift bags and gift cards to notable local venues such as NoMad and Marta for winning the event’s trivia contest, which was all about Duravit and Olympic tidbits relating to the company’s home country of Germany.
One question that popped up: How many Olympic games has Germany hosted? The correct answer to that: three. We toast to tying that number with a third Olympics-themed Duravit summer party in 2020!
